MONEY PULLING UP DANCEHALL?

Money pull-up is the payment of money to a selector by patrons in order for him or her to replay a specific song. It would seem as if nowadays disc jockeys and selectors are scouting the events that they are booked for and seeking out the big spenders then proceed to play a song to highlight them in hopes of getting money from them and most times they do! The big spenders will give the selectors more money to play more music that will highlight them and what they are about. This in turn results in the party being for them only and not for the many patrons in attendance. The big downside is that the patrons who have spent their money to have a good time and enjoy the event don't really get the opportunity to do so as they are not being catered to. It is now at a point where women are expressing their displeasure about what is taking place. They are not pleased as they want to dance, and they are unable to dance.  In 2017, selector Bishop Escobar pleaded with his colleagues not to let their greed and love of money ruin the entertainment value of events, speaking especially about 'money pull-ups,' the selector felt that patrons were being taken advantage of. Escobar has received money pull-ups in exchange for songs. However, he argues that some DJs have misused the system by collecting too much money and, as a result, spending too much time reproducing the same song again and over, eventually losing consumers' interest.

Q/A

1. Do you think 'Money-Pull' up is ruining the entertainment value of events?

2. Who do you think should take the blame, the people playing the music or the people consuming it?

Comments

  1. Definitely the people playing the music, I’m sure they have control and limits to how much time they replay songs. It honestly just ruins the vibe for everyone. It’s no longer about entertainment but about making a quick buck.
